Enterprise organizations have never had more choices for analytical solutions, particularly among cloud-based options. Over and over again we are asked about two popular solutions regarding how they compare and what is the best fit for an individual set of needs.
Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) and Tableau both provide high quality, easy to use solutions for building and maintaining an analytics and business intelligence program for virtually any organization. But what sets them apart from one another?
Oracle says OAC "...empowers business analysts and consumers with modern, AI-powered, self-service analytics capabilities for data preparation, visualization, enterprise reporting, augmented analysis, and natural language processing/generation."
Tableau offers "Interactive, visual analysis [that] lets you untangle thorny business questions and quickly get to the insights that propel your business forward."
Both tools allow you to connect to a wide variety of sources, from locally stored spreadsheets to enterprise warehouses, multi-dimensional cubes, and other advanced analytic infrastructures. They also both allow collaboration and sharing artifacts across organizations.
Oracle emphasizes OAC's machine learning capabilities as well. It has some pre-packaged scripts that can provide metadata information about your data and other metrics, but also allows custom scripting as well.
OAC is typically sold as a suite of tools, consisting of Data Visualization (both in the cloud and a desktop version for offline use), Business Intelligence Cloud Services, and an easy to use, insightful mobile app called Day by Day.
Tableau offers cloud, server, and desktop versions of their tool, providing great flexibility with its application.
Both products have been used extensively by our team for a variety of industries and profiles. If you're looking for an in-depth comparison to understand which is best for your organization, contact us and we will be happy to help guide you from selection to implementation and support.
